FARMINGTON — Saying her marriage to Nathan Sloop was not voluntary, Stephanie Sloop has filed a petition in 2nd District Court to have her marriage to Nathan Sloop annulled.

Sloop, 27, along with Nathan, 31, is accused of killing her 4-year-old son Ethan Stacy, whose body was found up Ogden Canyon on May 11.The couple each face charges of aggravated murder. In the petition, Stephanie claims her marriage to Nathan was the result of physical duress.

Stephanie and Nathan were married at the Davis County Courthouse on May 6, at a time police allege little Ethan was locked in a bedroom. A probable cause statement released within days of Ethan's body being discovered states the couple did not take Ethan with them to the courthouse “because they were afraid to take him out in public with the swelling and bruising to his face.”

The couple had been engaged for some months, and a website the couple created talked about how they were “soul mates.” That website has since been removed. Stephanie Sloop’s petition also requests her name be changed to a previous surname, although the petition doesn’t say which surname she prefers.

The petition also requests her personal property from the Layton apartment she and Nathan shared.
