FARMINGTON — Police in Utah County are searching for a missing Davis County man after his vehicle was found abandoned west of Utah Lake in an area near the Nutty Putty caves early Wednesday morning.
Davis County Sheriff’s Lt. Brad Wilcox said a Missing Endangered Person advisory was put out Tuesday afternoon for Luciano Reynaldo Trujillo, 54.
Trujillo was last seen at 4 a.m. on June 30 in Fruit Heights when he told his son he was going to Vancouver, Wash., to drop off a present for a daughter who lives there. He is described as 5 foot 8 inches tall, with dark brown hair, brown eyes, 210 pounds. His vehicle was found about 1 a.m. Wednesday after police followed up on a tip.
Luciano is considered endangered due to the fact that he has kidney disease requiring him to have dialysis twice a week, as well as bipolar personality disorder.
Wilcox said that anyone who knows the whereabouts of Luciano, or has seen his vehicle should contact the Davis County Sheriff’s Office at (801) 451-4150, or call 911.
Trujillo and his vehicle have been entered into National Crime Information Center’s (NCIC) data base.
Off-duty officer arrested in Layton sting
FARMINGTON — A longtime Farmington police officer was arrested last week during an undercover prostitution sting in Layton.
Lt. Shane Whitaker, an 18-year veteran of the Farmington police force was among eight men arrested at a Layton hotel last Thursday. Layton police scheduled appointments with customers on various websites, then set up a decoy at an area hotel.
Whitaker was cited with a Class B misdemeanor of sexual solicitation. He was fingerprinted and released, according to Layton police, but not booked into the Davis County Jail because of safety concerns for an officer who may have arrested some jail inmates. Whitaker is on paid leave, pending the results of an investigation. Those arrested included men from as far away as Tremonton.
The Layton Police Department has had a vice unit focused on cracking down on prostitution for several years. They regularly conduct sting operations.

Bountiful storm drain contract OK’d
BOUNTIFUL — A contract to improve the 100 West downtown area storm drain, here, was approved last week by the city council.
The $250,000 bid awarded to Leon Poulsen Construction of Ogden will be completed this summer.
That’ll provide some breathing room prior to completion of the new Zions Bank branch on the corner of Main and Center. It will also provide drainage for the remodel and expansion of the old Bountiful Lumber property, said City Planner Aric Jensen.
