Davis County residents interested in saving wildlands from fires can now apply for wildland firefighting positions with the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forests.

Especially needed are those who can serve as crew members on the engine, helicopter and hotshot teams as well as prevention technician. Other duties could include tree thinning, prescribed burns or other forest projects.

The seasonal positions requires arduous physical exertion under rigorous conditions. Those applying must be able to work in rough, uneven terrain and climb hills covered with trees, brush rocks and debris. Long hours, weekend and holiday shifts can also be expected.

Applicants must be 18 years old and will be required to pass a work capacity test, which includes completing a three-mile hike within 45 minutes, while carrying a 45 pound pack.

For more information or to apply go to www.fs.fed.us.
