Surrounded by family, our sweet, beloved mother and grandmother, Barbara, 89, passed away August 23, 2010. Her sweetheart of 67 years preceded her in death one year ago.
She was born to Edward W. and Martha Wright Kinghorn in Rigby, ID, Dec. 9, 1920. She attended schools in Idaho, graduating from Rigby High School and continued her education at BYU. She married Elvin H. Ossmen, Dec. 29, 1942 in Champaign, Illinois; later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, on June 13, 1945. Together they raised four daughters while living in Idaho, Oregon, and Utah. They had been residents of Bountiful since 1965.
Barbara had a great love for music, especially playing the piano and organ; she shared her talents with many. Family was everything to mom. She loved family get-togethers, campouts, dinners, celebrations – she had an infectious laugh. She was active in the LDS Church, serving in many positions including: seminary teacher, Relief Society president, and ward organist. Together, Barbara and Elvin served a temple mission in Sydney, Australia.
She is survived by daughters, Sharon (Kent) Smith, Peggy (Gary) Wiley, Elaine (Brent) Selin, and Beverly (Craig) Jenson; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; sisters Betty Tomlinson, Shirley (Cloyd) Lee, and brother George (Lorna) Kinghorn. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers Edward and Clair Kinghorn. Special thanks to Country Care and Caregiver Support for their kind assistance and service.
Services will be held August 28, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Kimball Mill Ward, 650 South 200 East, Bountiful, Utah. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Internment: Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 So. 200 West, Bountiful, Utah. Directors Independent Funeral Service.
