LAYTON – An Ogden man was arrested and charged with aggravated arson after police say he tried to set his girlfriend’s Layton apartment on fire.
According to Layton Police Sgt. Rod Dixon, Sammy S. Hasan broke into his girlfriend’s apartment at Highway 193 and Hill Field Road on July 10, and then tried to set the building on fire.
Dixon said Hasan’s girlfriend was not home at the time, but all the residents living in the same building were evacuated after smoke was detected. No one was injured in the fire, which caused minimal damage to the building.
Investigators tracked Hasan to Ogden, where he was arrested without incident on Monday. He faces an aggravated arson charge (on $50,000 bail), one telephone harassment charge and a burglary charge.
Dixon said Hasan had no known prior domestic disturbance charges, but court records show multiple criminal charges against him in recent years, including burglary and at least one weapons charge.
