CLINTON – Health officials say it’s okay to drink the water again.

According to a notice from Davis County Health officials and the Clinton City website, Monday’s water sample test results showed negative bacteriological results.

An updated post on the city website said the required chlorine residual levels within the City water system have been achieved, so the County allowed Clinton City to release the water advisory.

The notice also said water crews would continue to run with a higher than normal level of chlorine in the water for a while as a precaution, and that residents might taste a little bit of the chlorine, but that added that such levels are not harmful.

“We will be continuing to look for any other cross connections with the secondary water system,” the release said. “If you have any information on known cross connections, please contact the City.”

The notice also advised residents to check the Clinton City web site or Facebook page for home water system flushing recommendations from the County Health Dept.

“We thank all of you for your patience,” the release said. “Also, a huge thanks goes out to our City personnel who diligently worked long hours and through the weekend to super-chlorinate the water system, flush the lines and test the chlorination residuals.”

Over the weekend, Clinton City officials reported that the water supply no longer tests positive for E. coli, and lifted water warnings for most of the community.

Ballew said the city's water supply tested positive for E. coli the afternoon of Aug. 6, citing a cross connection between the city's culinary and secondary water. The problem was fixed immediately, as Clinton leaders said county and city officials took every precaution to make sure no one was infected.
